Make It Work

Align the seven elements that drive your agency

Growth does not come from having seven strong areas. It comes from making them work together.

The McKinsey 7S Framework, developed by Tom Peters and Robert Waterman, looks at seven internal elements that influence how effectively an organisation operates and implements change.

For creative and technology agencies, it provides a practical way to identify where growth is being held back.

Strategy

Where is the agency going? Which clients, services and markets will drive future growth?

Structure

Are responsibilities, reporting lines and decision making clear as the agency grows?

Systems

Do your processes, technology and workflows support efficient delivery, or are people relying on manual workarounds?

These are the hard elements.

Then come the soft elements, which are often more difficult to measure but equally important.

Shared Values

What does the agency actually stand for? Do those values influence everyday decisions?

Skills

Does the team have the capabilities needed for the agency's next stage?

Style

How does leadership influence culture, accountability and decision making?

Staff

Do you have the right people, in the right roles, with the right capacity?

The biggest insight is alignment.

You cannot introduce a growth strategy while keeping outdated systems, unclear responsibilities and insufficient skills.

For agencies, the 7S Framework can therefore become a powerful strategic health check.

The question is not simply, “Are we growing?”
